Nisab equals 7.5 bhori of gold (≈ 87.48 g) or 52.5 bhori of silver (≈ 612.36 g). When both prices are entered we use the silver Nisab — the lower, more inclusive threshold.

7.Refundable premiums or instalments paid on an insurance policy

8.Optional (voluntary) provident fund contributions — excludes the compulsory portion

9.Loans you expect to recover (the borrower acknowledges them, or you can prove they are collectable)

10.Money left with someone for safekeeping

11.Refundable security deposit paid for a rented home, shop or flat (if you are the tenant)

12.Other refundable security deposits (not related to rent)

13.Business cash on hand or in business accounts (if not already counted above)

14.Amounts customers owe you for goods sold

15.Current sale value of inventory: finished goods, raw materials and work in progress

16.Sale value of items bought to resell for profit (land, plots, flats, vehicles you still intend to sell)

17.Your share of the net Zakatable assets in a mudaraba / partnership / joint-stock venture (if the net assets are known)

18.Capital invested in a mudaraba / partnership / joint venture (if net Zakatable assets are unknown)

19.Shares bought to sell for profit — current market value

20.Shares bought for dividend income — your share of net Zakatable assets (if known)

21.Shares bought for dividend income — current market value (if net Zakatable assets are unknown)

Step 2: Deductible liabilities

Short-term debts and obligations you are allowed to subtract.

22.Personal loans for medical, family or everyday needs (only the part repayable within the next 12 months)

23.Business loans used to buy Zakatable assets such as stock (only the part repayable within the next 12 months)

24.Unpaid instalments on goods or services bought (only the part due within the next 12 months)

25.Outstanding unpaid dowry / mahr owed to your wife (only the part due within the next 12 months)

26.Unpaid salaries and allowances owed to employees, due before your Zakat year ends

27.Bills due before your Zakat year ends: taxes, rent, electricity, gas, phone, etc.

28.Zakat from previous years that is still unpaid

We subtract your total deductible liabilities from your total Zakatable assets, then charge 2.5% of the remainder — but only if that net amount reaches the Nisab threshold.
